Russian soldiers under General Alexander W. Suvorov and the enormous hardship of the rural population of the Muota Valley at that time. Historical contexts and stories handed down.
The “Darkroom 1799” focuses on the formative events of the years 1798/99.
In 1798, the French Revolution led to the rapid demise of the old Swiss Confederation. Foreign powers subsequently fought on the soil of present-day Switzerland. Resistance and powerlessness of the countrymen. For a few days the Muota valley became the center of fighting and more than 20000 French and Russian soldiers faced each other. Local chroniclers pass on the terrible events and allow a glimpse into this dark chapter of history.
The memory of these events has remained alive and present in the Muota Valley. Not least due to the involvement of a Russian-German baron who walked in the footsteps of Suvorov 120 years ago. Strong tradition and cultivated culture of remembrance.
