SWISS Bench in Morschach

Learn how the unique SWISS bench in Morschach came to be.

In 2022, SWISS celebrated its 20th anniversary and took the opportunity to thank Swiss tourism destinations. They offered tourism destinations the chance to give an Airbus 220 aircraft a new identity. The 20 most original applications received an aircraft named after their location. The Swiss population then voted for their three favorites, who also received an invitation to their own ceremonial naming ceremony at SWISS in Zurich and Geneva airports.

Stoos-Muotatal Tourism convinced the jury with a self-designed presentation highlighting the beauty of the various locations in the region and their breathtaking views of mountains and lakes. Stoos-Muotatal Tourism won the competition with Morschach and had already presented an aircraft named Stoos a few years ago. They are excited to showcase Morschach on an aircraft once again. To celebrate this occasion, Stoos-Muotatal Tourism had a SWISS bench made. The bench was dedicated to a resident of the municipality of Morschach at the inauguration: Ernst Immoos, who was chosen as the godfather of the Airbus named Morschach.

Ernst, the photographer and storyteller from the region.

Ernst Immoos is one of those unique personalities you never forget once you’ve met him. His love for his homeland and his spirit of adventure make him a living contradiction: the man who travels the world always remains true to a small corner of the earth in his heart – and this is reflected in his photographs. In the editorial office of the “Bote der Urschweiz,” colleagues often joke, “A photo without the myths? That must have been taken by someone else!” Ernst often says that a good photo is only complete when the myths are visible in it. Ernst is a passionate advocate of “Wildiheuen,” the traditional technique of mowing steep, often inaccessible mountain meadows. It is not an easy task and certainly not without danger. He ventured onto the steepest slopes to trim these endangered flower meadows. Despite his deep roots in Schwyz, Ernst is anything but tied to one place. His travels have taken him to Nepal, India, the Andes, and many other exotic locations. He was always seeking new perspectives and impressions.
