Mountain railways

Stoos railways

The Stoos railways connect to the car-free mountain village Stoos – while setting a world record. The funicular railway from Schwyz to Stoos is the steepest in the world. A technical wonder, which makes the trip a one-of-a-kind experience. Once you reach Stoos, a paradise of stunning landscapes and holiday leisure awaits guests in summer and winter.

Summer activities
The mountain village above Lake Lucerne is a destination for a variety of family trips and offers a range of mountain sports activities. Breathtaking views await you on the panorama terrace of the Fronalpstock and on the ridge walk from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock. Families can discover the Teufböni moor on an experience trail and have fun in the waters of the small Stoos lake.

Winter activities
The winter sports region on the Fronalpstock and Klingenstock offers 35 kilometres of fun on the pistes. Both amateurs and professionals will find a piste suiting their wishes as well as a course in the snow sports school based on their skills. Loipen, Freestylepark and winter hiking trails are prepared on a daily basis. Tobogganers and airboarders can speed down the slope on separate pistes on the Fronalpstock.

Schwyz-Stoos funicular railway.

Slope of up to 110%! From mid-December 2017, the steepest funicular railway in the world will be operating from the Schwyz-Schlattli valley station to the centre of the mountain village Stoos. The new mountain station is located in the midst of the hiking and skiing region at approximately 1,300 metres above sea level. Thanks to the automatic levelling of the cabins, passengers can stand upright throughout the entire ride. For families with prams, for wheelchairs as well as luggage transport, horizontal boarding and disembarking at the stations is ideal.

Morschach-Stoos cable car

You can reach the car-free mountain village Stoos by cable car from Morschach. Per direction of travel, one small cabin is operated. Therefore it is recommended to travel from Schwyz-Schlattli with the funicular railway on beautiful Sundays or public holidays and when travelling in larger groups.

Chairlifts to Fronalpstock and Klingenstock

During winter, the pistes start at the mountain stations Klingenstock and Fronalpstock. In summer, they are the starting point for panoramic hikes. Thanks to the magnificent view of the mountain landscape and the ten surrounding lakes, the Fronalpstock is a close-by destination for every season. On the terrace of the summit restaurant, cosiness meets panoramic views.
